Today McLean is joined by holistic beauty coach and advocate for BII (Breast Implant Illness) awareness, Amanda Porta. She’s here to share her story, from getting breast plants in her 20s, selling implants as her career, to the dozens of symptoms she then suffered from for years, and eventually finding healing with getting an explant surgery. She’s now a patient advocate for women going through Breast Implant Illness, having gone through the illness herself, she has explanted, detoxed, healed, and can guide women through their own explant journeys. She has advised thousands of women around the world from celebrities to athletes to prominent businesswomen that have trusted her expertise to support them through this health crisis. She and McLean discuss the history and types of implants, the lack of informed consent with implants, and how they can even affect breastfeeding. Her story is amazing; she went from unknowingly selling the very thing that was making her sick, to now helping other women find healing.
Thousands of women across the world suffer from mysterious autoimmune-like symptoms—and many never find a proper diagnosis. I was one of those women—and I was lucky enough to uncover the cause: Breast Implant Illness (BII). After getting my implants out and sharing my story, I remember feeling scared—but I soon discovered a community of women who had shared the same experience. Today, I’m sitting down with two powerhouses in the field of breast implant illness: Dr. Kevin Brenner, a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, and BII patient liaison, Amanda Porta who helps manage his Holistic Breast Team. We discuss their personal experience with BII, progress being made in the industry, and the best ways to support patients who might be experiencing BII symptoms. This is a topic that is deeply personal to me—and I’m so honored to continue this conversation. This episode is a must-listen if you’ve had plastic surgery, have any medical devices, or if you’re considering a future surgery.
Amanda Porta joins The Accrescent community to share her experience with Breast Implant Illness (BII). Amanda details the extensive list of symptoms she developed over the course of 7 years, the gaslighting she experienced from many doctors and surgeons along the way, and how removing her breast implants was the missing link in her chronic illness journey.
Amanda Porta returns to The Accrescent Podcast along with Kevin Brenner, MD, FACS. Dr. Brenner shares his experience with patients who have breast implant illness and important questions to ask before choosing a surgeon for explant. He also shares how he and Amanda have worked to create a holistic breast team to support patients along their health journey.
